I decided to attach the smaller oval piece that we cut the 5" rail from to the bottom of the playing surface. It's an optional step but one that I think adds some good stability and weight to the table. I took some time and measured it out to make sure this piece was as centered as possible. I traced a line and took the smaller piece off.
